Huge Fanx go out to all our members and PLRC staff for a job well done...I'd hate to start naming names because every member really contributes in one way or another..Thats what being part of a club is all about..Attendance cracked the 100 racer mark as expected..Thats a lot of people but we really are used to having that many every other weekend anyways..
I've always considered our top drivers at PLRC to be the best in Canada..In fact it was proven this weekend that they are on calibre with the best in the World..Our resident fast guy, Extreme Magazine writer & XXX Main Dude, Jeff Eveleigh, was able to contact one of the World's best for this event..Chris Tosolini..I have never seen a guy drive as smooth as Chris..Although the final results had Chris sticking in an extra lap, the qualifying races were a sight to see.
Canada's best were there and running fairly competitive with this Team Yokomo Racer..Chris Tosolini ended up victorious, but if you look at the lists below, every single one of those guys are well known as Canadian R/C Racers.. Guys from Niagara, St. Catherines, Toronto, Mississauga, and Ottawa..And not to mention a couple of really fast local guys who couldn't make it..Hopefully next year they will be there along with some very fast guys from Sudbury..(I hear Team Sudbury is already making plans to attend)
Saturday saw some awesome qualifying with most of the fast guys in the same heats..And a few that regret not being in those heats..A great day for racing and they just kept getting faster and faster..Saturday was well worth the price of admission by itself..
Then came Sunday..We started off ok but the threat of rain was there for sure...We got in three great qualifier rounds on Saturday and the plan on Sunday was we had to complete a round of qualifiers for it to count and the we would run the Mains depending on the weather..Turned out the qualifiers became rained out half way through...No fourth qualifier to the dismay of a lot of us..It was a good call though and one that had to be made...
I find that most R/Cers are aware of weather and although dissapointed they took it in stride and were great sports..We ended up getting rained out completely...End results for this event were from the Saturday qualifiers..
I wasn't happy with my results from Saturday and neither were a lot of guys but I think everyone was more dissapointed in not seeing the A-Mains...We were due for some awesome racing and it would have been a real treat to see.. But, as I said, we are used to this kind of stuff and I saw more laughter during Sunday than crying...It just turned into a huge track party..Getting a chance to visit with the best drivers in the hobby and having some real life/real time chat sessions..
A little rainy out but no threat to our ever resilient R/Cers..Matthew Bergin fires up his HPI Savage and starts running around the track..Peaking the interest of fellow racers he soon finds other guys joining in..Jeff Eveleigh starts ripping up the track with Matthews Savage...Dang near ripped the tires off it as he put it to the test around our touring car track...Got it handling pretty well by the time Chris Tosolini showed up and attempted some huge air...Set up some ramps and Chris was very impressive with his off road abilities as well..Great throttle control during flight showed us Chris had maybe had a go at this before..25 foot'ish jump...Nice and level with a great landing..
Then the track was starting to dry out and A.J. Jewell figured he needed to test his NTC3...So he gets out there with the Savage still running and Jeff at the controls...A little cat and mouse game got everybody's attention..Jeff couldn't keep up on the infield with A.J. but that didn't stop him from cutting a few corners...2" pipe is hardly a deterent was the Savage..So while A.J. is rippin', Jeff is stalkin'..A.J. did try to pass Jeff at one point but that Savage makes the track seem pretty narrow..Think A.J. probably still has the tread marks on his hood..Great fun guys..
And what's a rain day without a few challenges...Nitro Fuel up for grabs for the first eight drivers to sign up for the "First Ever PLRC Rain Race"..We got our 8 guys and they were off...Traction wasn't great and foam tires were switched out for rubber ones, but Gordie Tam of Ottawa was able to hold first for the entire race and claim his gallon of Ottawa Legal (they only run 20% there)Sidewinder nitro fuel..Again, as spectators this was a lot of fun..
Coincidence of the Century Award...Not sure who the racers were but a XXX Main Squared DVD went to the first guy to "put his car on the track"..At this point there was actually standing water on the track..Che Baird being a smart guy, "Put his car on the track"..Not exactly what was meant Che..Good one though and everbody got a laugh.. Rules are clarified and its the "first guy to do a lap"...One guy is there..He's going but it seems his batteries weren't quite up to it..Crawling around the track and a nitro guy decides he has time and drops his car too..Was doing well until he got close to the electric guy...Seems they both had the same frequency!!!...Imagine the odds!!..Nitro guy pulls his car off the track and the electric guys goes home with a new DVD compliments of XXX Main Racing...
Rain or no rain we made a good day of it and everybody went home pretty happy..
It really was too bad that the awesome trophies presented by Hobby Hobby had to be handed out in the rain..As usual, they really were nice and the rain kinda put a damper (no pun intended...Honest!!)on the trophy presentation..No pics and very little fanfair..
I would like to take this moment to give Fanx to our sponsors for this event.. Tom Bakonyi and Hobby Hobby for the great job he did with the trophies and prizes...And Tom Wright of Borgfeldt Canada(known to R/Cers as Tamiya Canada) for the great prizes(including a cool TAO4 Audi)..Same goes to Jeff Eveleigh of XXX Main Racing(XXX Main paint masks,R/C videos, stickers etc.) and Magna International(Speed Mind Products among other things)..Subway (eat fresh!!) and Tim Hortons (good coffee)were there as usual and their efforts are always welcomed and appreciated..
All in all, despite the weather, it was a great weekend and if we can survive/endure a weekend of racing like this, things can only be way better next year..Mark your calendars..Its something you don't want to miss!!!
